COPE Ethics & Publication Malpractice Statement

Conference Proceedings of Science (CPS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical behavior and academic integrity in all stages of the publication process. The journal strictly follows the guidelines and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

This statement outlines the responsibilities and expectations of editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers to ensure transparency, fairness, and ethical conduct.

1. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring fair and unbiased evaluation of manuscripts regardless of nationality, religion, ethnicity, political beliefs, or institutional affiliation.

  • Making publication decisions based solely on scholarly merit, originality, clarity, and relevance.

  • Maintaining confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer identities.

  • Avoiding conflicts of interest and recusing themselves when necessary.

  • Taking action in cases of suspected misconduct, plagiarism, data fabrication, or ethical violations.

2. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to CPS must:

  • Submit original and unpublished work that has not been submitted elsewhere simultaneously.

  • Ensure accuracy of data, findings, and references.

  • Properly cite and acknowledge the work of others.

  • Declare any financial or personal conflicts of interest.

  • Obtain ethical approval for research involving human or animal subjects where applicable.

  • Cooperate with editors during the peer review and revision process.

Authors understand that:

  • Plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, and unethical research practices are strictly prohibited.

  • Violations may lead to rejection, retraction, and reporting to institutional authorities.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide constructive, objective, and timely evaluations.

  • Maintain confidentiality and avoid discussing the manuscript with others.

  • Declare conflicts of interest and decline the review if necessary.

  • Report concerns regarding plagiarism, fabrication, or ethical issues.

  • Refrain from using unpublished material for personal advantage.

4. Responsibilities of the Publisher

As the official publisher, University of Diyala – Publishing House ensures:

  • Independence of editorial decisions.

  • Support for COPE-compliant editorial practices.

  • Transparency in publication workflows.

  • Ethical handling of misconduct allegations.

  • Accessibility of published work through open access.

5. Misconduct & Retraction Policy

CPS follows COPE flowcharts for investigating misconduct and may take actions including:

  • Correction of the article

  • Formal retraction

  • Notification to the author’s institution

  • Legal action if applicable

Reasons for retraction include:

  • Proven plagiarism or unethical research practices

  • Major errors invalidating conclusions

  • Data fabrication or manipulation
